Anganwadi Centres To Get Toilets. Construction and upgradation of Anganwadi Centre buildings under the Integrated Child Development Scheme, as approved for the XIIth Five Year Plan period, is an on-going activity.

Construction and upgradation of Anganwadi Centre buildings under the Integrated Child Development Scheme, as approved for the XIIth Five Year Plan period, is an on-going activity. Provision of a toilet is in-built in the AWC buildings approved for construction. As regards upgradation of AWC buildings, guidelines were issued to the States/UTs to construct at least one toilet per AWC upgradation sanctioned. During 2014-15, against the target of construction of 15,772 AWC buildings with toilets, a total 20,743 toilets were constructed in the AWCs.
States/UTs have also been advised to leverage funds from other schemes for construction of AWC buildings like Multi - Sectoral Development Programme of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Integrated Action Plan, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, MPLAD, MLALAD, etc.
This information was given by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in reply to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha today.
