Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday sounded confident of getting another term in the office, and described the BJP's tie-up with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bodo People's Front (BPF) a 'mess'.

Talking to the reporters after casting his vote, Gogoi said there is no anti-incumbency against his government in the state.

"What kind of government would the BJP form in which there is Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bodo People's Front (BPF)... they won't form the government. Their alliance is a 'Maha-khichdi' ( mess), which the people of Assam won't be able to digest," he added.

When asked to respond on the opinion polls which hinted at a hung assembly, Gogoi said he is confident of forming the government for the third time.

"The opinion polls didn't give me majority last time, but I got 79 seats. The same thing would repeat this time... I would win this time and I would become the Chief Minister," he added.

Responding to poser of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's charges of making illegal Bangladeshis Indian citizens, Gogoi said the former has failed to give his answers.

Meanwhile, polling for the first of the two-phase Assam assembly elections has begun amidst strict security in the 65 constituencies.

A total of 539 candidates, including 43 women, are in the fray.

More than 95 lakh voters will decide the fate of Chief Minister Gogoi and BJP Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal. (ANI)
