New Delhi: The Upper House here on Monday paid rich tributes to the former MP Rumandla Ramachandraiah amongst others. As soon as the swearing-in of some new members was completed, chairman of Rajya Sabha Hamid Ansari moved the motion of condolence.

Expressing profound sorrow at his passing away, Hamid Ansari, recalled that Ramachandraiah passed away on March 16 at the age of 65 years. He worked for the upliftment of the Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and minorities and for the development of the handloom industry, he said.

He served both as Director and Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Weavers' Co-operative Society, and as Director of the Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Finance Corporation. He added that late Ramachandraiah represented the State of Andhra Pradesh in the House from April, 1998 to April, 2004. In his passing away the country had lost an able Parliamentarian and a dedicated social worker, he added.
