New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the Monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to be slightly delayed this year.

IMD Director B.P. Yadav told ANI that the southwest monsoon is likely to set over Kerala on June 7. The normal monsoon onset date is June 1 when it reaches the state.

"There are chances that there will be a slight delayed monsoon in Kerala. Usually it comes on June 1 and this time it will come at June 7. The monsoon is coming on normal time in Andaman Nicobar," he said.

The southwest monsoon advances over the Andaman Sea normally around May 20 with a standard deviation of about one week.

Last year, the monsoon arrived at the Kerala coast on June 5, later than the IMD predicted date of May 30.
