​Hyderabad: On the lines of Tamil Nadu, the Telangana state government is all set to bring in a new Act to provide reservations to Muslim minorities proportionate to their population in education and employment. The STs would also be extended reservation based on their population as mandated in the Constitution soon.

The Chellappa Commission, constituted to study the socio-economic conditions of STs and the Sudhir Commission, which studied the socio-economic conditions of minorities submitted their respective reports to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao here on Friday.

Since Muslims were considered as the most backward community in Telangana state, the Chief Minister said that the government is committed to provide reservation in education and employment.

The Chief Minister had promised during the 2014 elections that 12 per cent reservation would be extended to minorities if TRS was voted to power.

The CM pointed out that STs in Telangana were meted out injustice in the united Andhra Pradesh as they were provided only 6 per cent reservation. In Telangana, the STs deserve 14 per cent reservation as they constitute 14 per cent of the total population.

Later, at a high-level meeting, KCR discussed legal and administrative matters required to provide reservation to the two communities. Advocate-General K Ramakrishna Reddy gave suggestions on the legal procedure to be adopted for implementing the rule of reservation.

The CM also instructed the departments concerned to study the reports and come out with an action plan to fulfill the promises at the earliest. Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy and Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma were present.
