Says it’s like telegram in times of email

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Sujana Chowdary on Sunday ridiculed the special category status (SCS) comparing it with the now out-fashioned telegram.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the Union minister said the special package was like an email in tune with the latest technological changes while special category status was like an old telegram which has no relevance now.

Chowdary said the special package was more useful than the special status to Andhra Pradesh to overcome the obstacles in achieving holistic development of the state.

Giving another analogy, he said if a doctor prescribes 500 mg medicine and if that was not available what would the patient do? He will take two 250 mg tablets. This is also like that. Since special status was not possible, special package, which was equivalent to it, is being accepted, he said.

This remark of the Union minister has raised several eyebrows since it goes contrary to the statement made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the Legislative Council on Friday.

Naidu had stated that AP was like a wounded soldier and would like to adopt a practical approach of accepting what the Centre was giving and fight for more. He said that he had not compromised on the demand for the special category status for AP.

Chowdary further said ‘economics is more important for Andhra Pradesh than the sentiments.’ Some political forces were instigating the people on special status for their political gains, he added.
