Why DMK and Congress were silent for 10 years on Cauvery issue?
The recent protest in Tamil Nadu against not respecting the court verdict in favour of releasing Cauvery water to TN and taking the protest to the door steps of IPL match looks more like theatric than real. The Drawidan parties have lost their identity and charm in the recent times and therefore they are trying hard to sell some age old agenda to be relevant in Tamil Nadu politics.

The Drawidan parties have lost their identity and charm in the recent times and therefore they are trying hard to sell some age old agenda to be relevant in Tamil Nadu politics.
If DMK and Congress wants to solve the Cauvery water problem, they could have solved it long before. DMK had enjoyed power simultaneously in centre and state during UPA I and II for long 10 years. DMK had enough muscle power and political weight to influence the UPA to solve the issue if they really want to do so. The power of coalition compulsion was openly admitted the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
It was Amma and AIADMK pursued the case and got a favourable judgment from Supreme Court. When politics around Cauvery pot started to boil, Amma, besides pursuing the matter also took several initiatives to conserve the water reserves in the state and initiated rain water harvesting programme, improving the water holding capacity of all ponds and catchments etc.
Today the Drawidian party is conveniently accusing the centre and not the congress its long time lover which is in power in Karnataka for not abiding the court verdict. This cheap politics people of the state are not going to accept.
Modij and BJP are quite sincere at the intentional level in solving the Cauvery dispute in a friendly manner so that both states benefit equally and feel justice is done and not forced upon.
The youths and the prospective first time voters of the coming election must remember the duality and hypocrisy of the Drawidian party in misguiding the people.
Call for the cancellation of IPL was very cruel and ridiculous idea as the IPL match besides offering some entertainment value also provides huge livelihood opportunity to many in the state. People of the state have understood the ploy and therefore had defeated the call and in fact had watched the match in the stadium despite traffic jam and other confusions created by the linguistic patriots of the state.
When DMK was in power both in the state and at centre should have initiated desalination plant to meet the water demand from the perennial source – Arabian ocean. Citing the cost of desalination plant as reason look frivolous and if they want, initiatives could have been made.
Playing politics on everything by the politicians is well known. But even on the interest of the state, the so called patriots of the state are playing politics than really interested in solving the issue is shocking.
Making IPL as scapegoat for venting the anger has broken all bars and norms civility in Indian politics. It looks like the Drawidian party is worried that BJP and Modiji may solve the issue and therefore they may loose this issue once for all. May be sensing the possible solution by Modiji, they want to create some confusion so that when the solution is evolved, they can claim their share. But the youths and first time voters of the state are not going to buy such cheap politics.
The Cauvery issue is decade old. By protesting against IPL what best these politicians can achieve is nothing but a small snap of them in prime time news. People of India knows and remember well that the newly born crusader against corruption Mr. Kejariwal did everything to catch a snap shot in prime time news bt regularly mudslinging at everyone and finally had to knock the doors of everyone to confess, apologize and kneel down for forgiveness.
The days of dirty politics and destructive politics are over. Indian electorates are maturing. Most of the electorates are moving away from party politics to neutral players. Therefore gaming with emotional issues or diversion politics is not going to give any dividend to these negative players.
The present AIADMK government has shown reasonable maturity and statesmanship in solving the problem. So continuation of the present government respecting fully well the co-operative federalism by BJP is must for the good of the state.
The youths and first time voters instead of affiliating with any of the pre-existing political parties in Tamil Nadu must split between Kamal and Rajni so that the state can be saved forever.
