New Delhi: The BJP and the Congress on Tuesday hit back at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for alleging that the opposition parties have been opposing the CCTV project because it would be difficult for them to "distribute booze and money" during elections if cameras were to be installed.

The two parties accused ruling Aam Aadmi Party of indulging in "propaganda" over the issue.

Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken termed the CCTV camera project a "scam" and challenged Kerjiwal to order a probe into it.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said the chief minister might have been accusing his party of creating hurdles in CCTV camera project, but "they have levelled allegations against our leaders in the past also and then gone on to seek apology.

It will not be surprising if they do so again."
The Chief Minister is indulging in "propaganda" over the issue because they are not "serious" about installing the CCTV cameras and want to implement the project in an "arbitrary" manner without following due procedures, he alleged.

The Delhi chief minister on Tuesday questioned the BJP and Congress over their opposition to the CCTV camera project and alleged they were wary that cameras could catch them doling out booze and money during elections.

"If CCTV cameras are installed in Delhi, BJP and Congress will face difficulty in distributing booze and money in the elections.

A BJP leader on Monday said that LG has been asked to hold the installation of CCTV cameras till Lok Sabha election," he tweeted.

BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta dubbed Kejriwal as "the largest machine of manufacturing lies" and challenged him to reveal the name of BJP leader that met him.

Delhi Congress reiterated its allegation of corruption, saying the AAP government was trying to award the contract for CCTV camera installation to a Chinese firm.

"They have short-listed the Chinese company for CCTV camera installation. This is a big scam which needs to be probed by the Lokpal that was promised by Kejriwal before coming to power in Delhi," Maken said.

The Congress is against "corruption" in the project and not against CCTV cameras, he said. "Kejriwal is crying hoarse because we have caught him."
