The clear analysis of TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) Party’s impressive results in the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad polls gives us the evidence how the party has been reinforced at the grass-roots level over a period of time.

It is worth recollecting that TRS party has initially received recognition during the ZPTC elections in the year 2001, just after a few months of the party’s setting up. Nevertheless, the same could not be rhythmic in the 2006 elections. The TRS Party has most recurrently come under the enquiry for not having good cadre and also the second rung leaders in several districts, mostly in Southern Telangana districts.

It is obvious that the local-body elections are fought on local issues. Many issues like the domination of local leadership and the understanding of the local issues become vital for these elections. Apart from this, the ruling government owns an upper hand in these elections for obvious reasons. As TRS Party was never in the ruling position and also the Telangana sentiment never worked on the local-body elections, the party could not assert the imposing results at the earlier instances. However, the recent results are the demonstrations to prove a changed situation and the strengthened power of TRS Party. The party has changed transparently in the last few years. It is now in a position to confront recognized political parties like Congress and TDP even in local body elections.

When compared to the last ZPTC elections, which were held in 2006, TRS has improved its tally from a mere 25 ZPTCs to an enormous 191 ZPTCs. While Congress has experienced a down fall from 200 ZPTCs in 2006 to 178 now, the TDP has lost its base noticeably and came down to 52 ZPTCs from 150 in 2006.

In a similar vein, when we look at district-wise results, in 2006, TRS could not win even one ZP Chairperson post, but now it has already bagged 3 ZPs and is in a brawny position to win 1-2 more ZPs, where no party has an obvious majority.

The above chart indicates how TRS has gulped up the share of both Congress and TDP to come out as a leading party in Telangana.
