Graffiti is illegal, and a punishable offense in Indian law. This is often used to stifle graffiti artist's protests, and forces them to operate clandestinely, working late at night.
However, a Street Art Festival hosted for 2 months at the beginning of this year seems to show an evolution of the mindsets of the authorities. It recognizes Graffiti artists work, and shows the validity of the messages they bring close to the people. Artists applauded this event, which they hope will make street art in Delhi even more dynamic.
