Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi seems to be taking a leaf out of YSRCP Chief YS Jagan's book in his bid to get closer to the public. After the 56-day sabbatical, the scion of Gandhi family is back with a bang and appears fully prepared to take on his political rivals. Once back, his focus has been on farmers. Looks like Rahul is on a mission to take up the cause of farmers.

It is a known fact that YS Jagan became a household name in AP after his popular masses connect programme - Odarpu Yatra. Jagan earned mass appeal in a hard way leaving the ivory tower politics and sweating out in the scorching heat. YS Jagan with his tours consoled hundreds of families of farmers who committed suicides. It appears that Rahul Gandhi is following YS Jagan's strategy to revive Congress party's dwindling fortune.

Now, Rahul Gandhi too has embarked on a 'Padyatra' to interact with farmers and know their problems. Many of the Congress leaders feel it is the right time for Rahul to embark on such a yatra as Congress is decimated in many states. Recently, Rahul left for Punjab by train to assess the plight of the farmers. Today, he began a 15-km padyatra in Amravati district in Maharashtra to meet the families of farmers who committed suicide.

It remains to be seen if Rahul Gandhi can manage to connect with the masses with his padyatra similar to Odarpu Yatra and earn popularity among the masses like Jagan.
