Nizamabad: District Collector Christina Z Chongthu said that active involvement of local people is essential for preparing plans for the implementation of SC, ST Sub-Plan. People belonging to these communities have to involve and prepare plans for the development of SC, ST colonies by making use of the allotted funds, she said.

The Collector was the chief guest at the `Indiramma Kalalu' meeting organised at Indiranagar at Yellareddy town in the district on Tuesday. The funds allocated under the Sub-Plan would be utilized for providing basic amenities at the colonies. The colonies with more than 40 per cent of population of the people belonging to the communities would be developed by using the funds, she said.

She said internal roads, underground drainage lines, community halls and grave yards would be constructed in the colonies and individual toilets would be sanctioned. Senior citizens, above 65 years of age, would be sanctioned monthly pensions. Pensions would also be sanctioned to widows and physically challenged persons.

Awareness meetings, Indiramma Kalalu, would be conducted at various villages up to the end of April. People have to attend the meeting and submit their applications to seek various benefits. They can also submit plans for the development of colonies, thandas and habitations. The petitions would be recorded `Online' at mandal level offices and works would be taken up depending on priority, Ms Chongthu said.

Additional Joint Collector Sri Ram Reddy said that 15 per cent of the total budget amount would be allocated for the development of SC, ST colonies and to the individuals belonging to the communities. Street lights, drinking water schemes and other facilities would be provided at the villages with the funds, he said.

Social Welfare Joint Director Kaleb, Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Venkateswarlu, District Social Welfare Officer Pandu Rangam, Welfare Officer Rajaiah, MPDOs and Tahsildars of Yellareddy mandal were present at the meeting.
