Tennis star Sania Mirza is all set to become the first woman tennis player and the second to get the coveted award of India's highest sports award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.

The first tennis player to be conferred the award in India is Leander Paes in 1996-97. The Sports Ministry earlier this month had recommended her name for the award but also stated that the final decision would be from the Awards Committee.

In July, Sania won her first ever women's doubles Grand Slam title in her career with Martina Hingis and became world number one. With already three mixed doubles Grand Slams, Sania Mirza will be competing with discus thrower Vikas Gowda and squash player Deepika Pallikal for the award.
