NEW DELHI: Have you ever had Neyyappam? Well you might want to taste one soon, as the newly-launched Android N version may be called Neyyappam. The Kerala-based dessert has been featured on the official Android website as one of the probable names of Android N. This is the first time that an Indian dessert name has made it to the list of possible names for Android versions.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai had promised that there would be an online poll for deciding the name of Android N. The #NameAndroidN website allows anyone to participate and suggest a name for Android N, till 12.29 pm June 9, IST.

Interestingly, Google has somehow ruled out the possibility of naming Android N as Nutella.

During his visit to India last year , Pichai had said that the next version of Android may be selected via an online poll. This was in response to a student's query over naming a version of the mobile OS after an Indian dessert. Pichai had also said at the time, "And if all Indians vote, I think we can make it (an Indian name) happen."

The Kerala Tourism Department has also extended its support for Android Neyyappam on Twitter . A website called androidneyyappam.com has been also developed, as part of the online campaign to promote the same.

There is no official word from Google regarding this. Also, the name with maximum votes doesn't ensure a win either. Google will make the final call on the name.
