Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Gears Up for Monsoon, With just a couple of days left for the southwest monsoon to strike the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has drawn plans to tackle any untoward incident.
Monsoon Plans
- 283 water logging points identified.
- The total length of patch work on roads to be completed by June 15 at an cost of Rs 38.53 crore
- Desilting of nalas in 165 colonies (identified as prone inundation) across the city are to be completed; 110 out of 297 works have been completed.
- Number of teams to attend problems increased from the present 40 to 60 during monsoon. The teams to be made available 24X7.
- 24 X 7 Call Center to be available on 040 2111111
- Coordination with Traffic Police by keeping one person from GHMC with the Traffic Police Control room
- 12 Police Control Rooms in Cyberabad & 5 Police Control Rooms in Hyderabad have been provided with dewatering pump, chain saw, mud pump, cutters
- Central emergency vehicle teams increased from the present 6 to 18. Each team to have eight members with a vehicle and would be available 24X7. The budget has been increased from Rs 124 Lakh to Rs. 356 Lakh
Hyderabad: With just a couple of days left for the southwest monsoon to strike the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has drawn plans to tackle any untoward incident. A review meeting with all line departments was held here on Wednesday. Representatives from the Police Department, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad Metro Rail, Fire Department and Water Board attended the meeting and requested for necessary equipment.
Somesh Kumar, the GHMC Commissioner, said that the civic body took several new initiatives such as increasing of Central Emergency teams to 18 from existing 6, 40 monsoon teams were increased to 60 and material was procured before hand in all the 24 engineering divisions unlike earlier years.
According to the Commissioner, the GHMC has identified 165 localities as inundation points and a special programme has been chalked out in collaboration with the Revenue officials for their rehabilitation. The civic body has kept 56 life guard swimmers ready to face any untoward incident. Somesh Kumar directed the Irrigation officials to formulate teams to check all the lakes and list out the points where breaches can occur. He further directed the Medical and Health department to conduct in all the slums of the GHMC.
The police requested to provide necessary equipment such as de watering pumps, spades etc., that are needed for their 21 cranes while IMD officials requested to provide two employees to work in their Doppler Radar Centre, Fire officials asked for provision 40 employees for 4 months to work on their modern Hazmat vehicles.
Syamala Rao, MD, HMWW&SB, said that they were ready with 21 Emergency Response Teams (ERT) to tackle with heavy water loggings, each headed by a DGM and they were also keeping sufficient number of manhole covers ready. He further said they intensified the chlorination of water during rainy season.
Ziauddin, Chief Engineer, HMR said that they directed L&T people to take up re-carpeting of roads whenever there was a damage. “The HMR is making payments to the concerned departments to take up the re-carpeting works, whenever there is a need,” he stated. All the line departments requested the Commissioner to open a centralised control room under the GHMC, to which all of them would depute their responsible officers.
Jitender, Additional CP (Traffic), Mukesh Kumar Meena, Hyderabad Collector Sridhar, Rangareddy Collector, Avinash Mohanthy, Deputy CP (Traffic), Cyberabad, Ramakrishna Rao, CE, Irrigation, YK Reddy, Director I/C, Meteorological Centre and other senior officials from various departments took part in the meeting.
Anjani Kumar, ACP said that control rooms were set up at their Zonal offices. He opined that there should be a generator whenever there would be a building collapse sort of incident and there should be a medical set up to attend the first aid service near the accident spot.
