The Minister was speaking at the prize distribution function of the sixthMonsoon Regatta at the famed lake Sunday evening.

He said the Lake was symbolic of the city and ranked among the liveliest of the landscapes.

Praising the organizers for the conduct of such a big event, Rama Rao singled out Yacht Club of Hyderabad for special mention and lauded their efforts to tap sailing talent from under-privileged sections of the society.

The Minister hoped that efforts would be made to develop water sports in Himayatsagar and Osman Sagar. Incidentally, the Optimist event was won by 12-year-old city boy Leela Sagar. The Minister met the boy’s mother Rama Lakshmi, who is a daily-wage earner.

He assured her complete assistance from the Government to help Sagar realize his career aspirations. He also announced that the Telangana government would reward Sagar along with Malawat Purna and S Anand, who entered the record books with their Mount Everest conquest, in course of time.

Member of Parliament Vishweshwar Reddy, earlier associated with the Save Lake Campaign, said efforts should be made to crusade against those polluting Hussain Sagar Lake.
