Hyderabad: Renowned Swedish firm 'IKEA', which is considered world's largest furniture retailer, has come forward to open its first store in the country here in Hyderabad with a budget of Rs 600 crore

A high-level team from IKEA consisting of its CEO Juvenico Maeztu met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Secretariat on Wednesday. Welcoming the overseas firm's decision, KCR assured Maeztu that all necessary clearances would be given through a single window system, so that the furniture major could commence their operations at the earliest.

IKEA CEO told KCR that he was very impressed with the city and its environs in all aspects. He explained in detail the genesis and growth of his company over a period. He also extended an invitation to the Chief Minister and officials to visit their stores abroad.

Women entrepreneur groups, bamboo and wood artisans, carpet makers of Warangal as well as SERP women's groups have been identified as potential suppliers during the meeting.

Meanwhile, KCR informed the foreign delegation that his office would have a 'special chasing cell' to take care of needs of potential investors' right from their arrival at the airport till commencement of operations. IKEA is a Swedish company registered in Netherlands. It designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture (such as beds, chairs and desks), appliances and home accessories. As of January 2014, IKEA owns and operates 349 stores in 43 countries.
