Khammam: Apart from providing education, teachers should create awareness among students on moral values, said District Collector Dr K Ilambarithi here on Friday.
The Collector took part in the Gurupujotsavam organised at the TNGOs Function Hall here on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The Collector said teachers were playing a key role in imparting education to the poor students in rural areas. He said those who studied in government schools were holding key posts in different sectors. The Collector pointed out that he had studied in a government school. He recalled his association with the teachers who taught him in his 10th Class.
Ilambarithi said the teachers should ensure that students develop interest towards studies. The teachers should create opportunities for students to exhibit their talent and creativity. They should ensure that the students excel in different fields in future. The Collector said the district-level officials will visit different schools right from the village-level and select the best teachers in connection with the Teacher’s Day celebrations. He said the teachers should not confine themselves to just providing education to students, they should also educate them on the good and bad in society. The teachers should also take up the responsibility for improvement of standards in government schools and for their development.
The Collector felicitated 33 teachers belonging to the government schools and 9 teachers from private schools for rendering meritorious services on the occasion.
Speaking at the function, Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar said the contribution made by parents and teachers plays a vital role in the growth of an individual. Expressing concern over private schools turning imparting of education into a commercial activity, he said moral values were still prevailing in the sector due to the selfless services being rendered by government school teachers. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers who helped the country to produce intellectuals in different fields.
Y Balaiah, Deputy Director, School Education, urged the teachers to derive inspiration from the ideals of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He said the teachers should help in eradicating corruption in society. He sought their cooperation in achieving Bangaru Telangana.
Apart from striving to excel in academics, the students should also imbibe cultural values, Balaiah added. Cultural programmes presented by students attracted the audience on the occasion.
