All colonies in cantonment area, barring one, have now sufficient drinking water

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has started issuing new water connections as most of the colonies, barring one, getting sufficient water. The SCB has already issued 13 new connections last week.

A senior official of SCB said that 90 applications had piled up in the last few months with some dating back to over two years. The SCB had stopped issuing new water connections as the Water Board was not supplying enough water.

The requirement of Secunderabad Cantonment per day is 2.5 lakh gallons but the intake point at Trimurthy Colony gets a daily supply of water ranging between 56,000 gallons to 1 lakh gallons daily.

When contacted, the Water Board officials said that the motors were not working properly and there were leakage issues that need to be sorted.

While most of the colonies in the cantonment now get water, the residents of Mahendra Hills are suffering. An official of SCB said that the reason for issuing new connections was that most of the colonies now had water problems.

Once the Water Board starts supplying the required amount of water, the water problems will be solved. The SCB has been paying the water bills of Rs 2 crore per month since January 2014 but it still have to pay Rs 20 crore to HMWS&SB.

SCB is also updating the database of water connections and has started sending a team of four members to different colonies to find out the illegal connections.

On Saturday, the Water Board supplied 56,000 gallons of water. A senior official said if the Water Board supplied enough water, the residents of Mahendra Hills would not have problems.
