Congress Condemns Varavara Rao’s Arrest. Deputy CLP leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Monday condemned the arrest of revolutionary writer Varavara Rao and others, when they tried to conduct a public meeting ‘Pratyamnaya Rajakeeya Vedika’.
Hyderabad: Deputy CLP leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Monday condemned the arrest of revolutionary writer Varavara Rao and others, when they tried to conduct a public meeting ‘Pratyamnaya Rajakeeya Vedika’.
At a press conference, the Former Minister said Varavara Rao and others were taken into custody by the police in a highly objectionable manner. “In a democracy, everyone has a right to hold protest and express their opinion. By denying them permission to conduct the meeting, the Telangana government violated their fundamental right to Freedom of Speech. Further, senior leaders were manhandled by the police without even considering their age,” he said, adding the previous Congress government never imposed ban on meetings in the past.
Shabbir Ali demanded that the KCR tender an unconditional apology to Varavara Rao and other leaders who were taken into custody in an illegal manner. He also advised KCR to shed his arrogance which has been spoiling the atmosphere in Telangana state. “First, the students of Osmania University faced the wrath of TRS government when they held protest against regularisation of contract employees. Later, the farmers were beaten up by the police when they held demonstrations against erratic power supply. Recently, the TRS government targeted the employees and now it hit the civil rights activists and organisations, he rued.
He also demanded that at least one woman Minister be inducted into the State Cabinet before the Bathukamma festival takes off. Bathukamma festival signifies feminine felicitation. Therefore, Chief Minister should induct at least one or two women Ministers in his cabinet to give a real meaning to the official celebration of Bathukamma festival. He said it was strange that KCR could not identify even one capable woman in his party who could be made a Minister.
KCR govt exhibiting anti-people attitude: Varavara Rao
Hyderabad: Rajakeeya Pratyamnaya Vedika (Political Alternative Front) condemned the Telangana government for foiling its first meeting scheduled to be held at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Bagh Lingampally on Sunday. It also strongly denounced the arrests of its activists en masse.
Speaking to media on Monday, Vedika convenor Varavara Rao said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government had exhibited its ‘anti-people attitude’ by preventing the meeting which was convened to publicise the joint revolutionary movement. Condemning the illegal arrests of the activists, Rao said the Vedika had submitted an application to the police on September 2 to grant permission for September 21 rally and public meeting at Indira Park and use of public address system. But the city police served a notice to him on September 19 evening, informing rejection of permission citing totally objectionable reasons.
He alleged that the police had branded the Vedika as an affiliated body of the Maoist party though it had people who respect democracy, writers, intellectuals and Gandhians. Its members had nothing to do with Maoist philosophy, he said adding that intellectuals, who worked for public welfare for decades realised the need for floating a platform as an alternative to the present-day government.
