TDP leaders from Telangana seek ex gratia of Rs.10 lakh each to families of farmers who committed suicides

Hyderabad: Accusing the State government of doing little to address the problems of farmers, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday urged Governor ESL Narsimhan to intervene and convene a meeting of the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to sort out differences between the two States in an amicable manner.

The delegation led by Telangana TDP leader L Ramana also submitted a memorandum regarding attacks on them by ruling party workers and problems in Nalgonda recently. Addressing the media outside Raj Bhavan, Ramana said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government was not bothered about farmers’ suicides. They had not bothered to find out the welfare of any such family. Senior TDP MLA E Dayakar Rao alleged that crop loss happened because of the government’s negligence and demanded a compensation of Rs 30,000 per acre for crop loss.

He said the government was responsible for farmers’ suicides. Each family should be given an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh. “Farmers are not getting remunerative price though they are doing farming with great difficulty. Cotton price has fallen. CCI says that government is not cooperating with them. That’s why the TTDP has requested Governor to intervene and see that cotton is purchased at Rs 5,000 per quintal through CCI,” Rao said.

They also demanded the dismissal of Telangana Education Minister G Jagdish Reddy and arrest of TRS Munugode legislator Prabhakar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao for the attacks on them and the burning of the party office in
Nalgonda.
