Warangal: The city-based social service organisation Sulakshya Seva Samithi donated blankets to the leprosy-affected people residing at Leprosy Colony in Hanamkonda on Sunday.

Noted mimicry artiste Padma Sri Nerella Venu Madhav, Arjuna award winner J Pitchaiah and Kakatiya University In-charge Registrar Prof M V Ranga Rao were guests and donated blankets to the colony residents.Speaking on the occasion, Venu Madhav appreciated the service activities of the Samithi. He expressed happiness over a group of youngsters organising social welfare programmes after establishing the Sulakshya Seva Samithi. He called upon the youth to draw inspiration from the activities of the Samithi.In his address, Pitchaiah said that there have been number of people who were living in abject poverty. Samithi should continue to take up various activities to help the poor. “Very few care about the poor these days and the services of the Samithi are really laudable,” he said.

Prof Ranga Rao assured the Samithi organisers of all kinds of support in their future activities. It was heartening to see youngsters doing social work when very few were concerned about the wellbeing of the society, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, founder of the Samithi, Santhosh Manduva, informed that they have been distributing around 200 blankets annually for the last two years. The members of the Samithi also searched streets during late nights to identify the homeless.
