Hyderabad: The Telangana government will be launching pension scheme for the old-aged, handicapped and widows from November 8. The pension amount for first month would be paid in cash with each village as a unit.
Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao conducted a video conference at Secretariat on Tuesday with Collectors of 10 districts.
He told them to distribute pension in the form of cash only for first month and then stick to the old method of transferring amounts directly into their bank accounts.
Cash distribution decision was taken so that beneficiaries could feel for themselves the enhanced pension amounts, a promise made by TRS in its election manifesto. While old-aged and widowers would be given Rs 1,000, handicapped persons would get Rs 1,500 every month.
The number of applications received in 10 districts for pension scheme was 39.9 lakh.
Around 19.3 lakh applications (close to 50 per cent) have been verified so far. Collectors were told to complete these formalities in a week.
