He pointed out that previous governments in undivided State washed off their hands by providing financial assistance to just 300 to 400 families per year at the time of wedding of girls children. However, the TRS enhanced the number of beneficiary families by almost 60 times, he added.

Mahmood Ali said the scheme was applicable from October 2 onwards and therefore, all marriages performed on or after October 2 were eligible under the scheme. He said in exceptional cases applications for marriage scheduled to be held within a week's time would also be considered.

The government was committed to ensure zero graft in this scheme and hence intermediaries or middle man would not be encouraged in implementation of the scheme, he said.

Higher officials of Minority Welfare department officials attended the programme.

It may be recalled that government recently issued a GO announcing a financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 to the poor minority families for wedding of their girl children. Brides, whose family income doesn't exceed Rs. 2 lakh, will be eligible to receive the assistance from the government.

The GO said that the families could get the money as advance, if their applications were submitted before one month of the wedding day.
