Somesh KumarHyderabad: The Bhagyanagar Municipal GHMC Employees Union sent a letter to the Governor of Telangana State here on Tuesday against the rude behaviour and use of unparliamentary language by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Somesh Kumar.

In a strong-worded letter, the Union members alleged that the Commissioner used abusive language against the employees and called them “you bastard and stupid” and threw papers at them. Earlier, in a review meeting in North Zone and East Zone, he directed officers to suspend two tax inspectors of East Zone.

The letter also alleged that the Commissioner threatened G Ashok, Assistant Municipal Commissioner/valuation officer of Circle V, GHMC of suspension knowing well that he was admitted to hospital. He died on Sunday due to hypertension.


Several employees complain of unrealistic targets and deadlines to collect property tax. It may be noted that the GHMC achieved a target of Rs 100 crore in property tax collection last year. An employee of GHMC head office on the condition of anonymity said that the Commissioner once even broke a phone when the person at the other end took a while to receive the call. He is impatient and uses abusive language. On another occasion, a driver once stopped the car on the main road stepped outside the car and refused to drive due to abusive language used by the Commissioner. Only after the gunman pleaded him did he get back into the car.

The employees union in the letter demanded that the Commissioner be transferred or they would be forced to go on agitation.
