To highlight the importance of rainwater harvesting, students of New Science Degree College performed flashmob in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.

Warangal: To highlight the importance of rainwater harvesting, students of New Science Degree College performed flashmob in Hanamkonda on Wednesday. About 50 students belonging to Department of Geology sporting red and white T-Shirts performed flashmob at Adalat crossroads in a bid to promote roof top rainwater harvesting by means of harvesting pits.

Earlier, about 600 students took out a rally from the college on Hunter road to Adalat crossroads sporting placards, banners and raising slogans with the messages on harvesting rainwater. College Chairman Prof M Panduranga Rao, Principal G Dharma Reddy and R Mallikarjun Reddy of KU Geology Department explained that the objective of the programme was to create awareness among the public on saving every drop of rainwater.

“Saving rainwater by digging harvesting pits in houses would help raise the groundwater levels in all colonies so that drying up of wells can be avoided in summer season. It is a simple act but makes a great difference in terms of water conservation,” they said. College faculty members B Veeranna, M Kiran, A Srikanth, KU Professors K David and K Niranjan Kumar, faculty members S Srinivas Reddy, K Srinivas Varma and others participated in the programme.
