“Technology is a force multiplier in achieving better communication. In terms of delivery of police services to citizens, the Hyderabad city police has taken another step forward and launched separate FB pages for all police stations in an endevour to transfer the cops into a citizen-friendly policing system,” Sharma added.

“On November 29 and 30, the 49th All India DGPs and IGPs conference in Guwahati which was organised by the Intelligence Bureau, was addressed by Prime Minister M Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh. On the day of the conference, the Prime Minister stressed the need of general communication through new technologies on a real time basis and with the launch of FB pages to all police stations, the Hyderabad city police achieved its objective,” the DGP added.

Explaining the objectives of FB, he further said it would enable the local people of respective police jurisdiction to identify their needs of policing and communicate to the local police station on a real time basis. He further added it would also enable the local people informed of the initiatives and actions taken by the cops from time to time in terms of crime prevention and detection, maintenance of law and order, citizen grievance redressal, emergency response management, prosecution of criminals and safety and security of communities at large.

When asked about the option of lodging any FIR through FB, the DGP said as of now people cannot lodge any such FIRs. It is only a communication medium through which people can suggest methods to improve policing, giving feedback on quality of services.
