Hyderabad: Telangana government will act sternly against land grabbers and at the same time it will be liberal in the case of poor people, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said at the all-party meeting convened to discuss protection of government lands in the State capital and regularisation of existing houses.

  • Convenes all-party meet on protection of govt lands
  • Seeks relaxation of rules for middle class and poor

The Chief Minister, reiterating his govenrment’s resolve, said that tough laws would be enacted for the purpose. He sought the cooperation of parties, officials and people to help the government in the task. The government in a release claimed that the parties which attended the meeting supported its proposal to regularise illegal constructions in 125 square yards of government land, which mostly belong to middle class, with nominal rates.

These sections are duped into buying lands for market rates by middlemen who deceive them with fake documents. Targetting them would not be proper and hence such cases should be dealt with human angle. The government also proposed charging hefty fees even market rates for illegal constructions that were built in 300-500 square yards and above 500 square yards area.

Rao asked the legislators and officials to form a joint committee at Assembly constituency level to find out data about extent of government land and different type of encroachments. However, speaking to media after the meeting, Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the government lacks clarity on the issue and it has provided old statistics related to Urban Land Ceiling applications. He alleged that the State Government was trying to impose its decision under the guise of holding all-party meeting. He said that the discussion on the issue was incomplete and the government has not fixed a new date for continuation of all-party meeting.

Mallu also demanded an all party meeting to discuss the Metro Rail route in the old city. He claimed that the then Congress Government had finalised the Metro Rail project after considering all aspects. However, by citing different reasons, the present TRS Government is trying to stall the project, he alleged.

TDP leaders L Ramana and Errabelli Dayakar Rao also echoed similar views and said that the government lacks both, the accurate data and clarity on the issue. They said the government should disclose the number and types of cases which are pending in different courts. They said that a special court should be established to dispose off all the cases within six months. They also sought probe into the benami properties in the city.
