They will have public address and night vision systems

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Commissionerate is making all out efforts to ensure that the city becomes an absolute safe zone. The Commissionerate, which had recently taken up several new initiatives, is now in the process of installing 140 new close circuit (CC) cameras with Public Address System (PAC) and night vision, to handle any kind of emergency situation.

According to sources, mikes will be attached to the cameras, which will ensure smoother flow of traffic and address parking problems. The officials at Command Control system based in Commissionerate which controls the camera movement will also be able to speak on this micro phone.

Currently, the Cyberabad police are geared up to upgrade 47 CC cameras in the IT corridor. Earlier, the IT corridor was equipped with fixed and moving cameras, which recorded footage during day and night time. However, the recordings of the night time failed to provide clarity to the clues team or the investigating teams when some crime used to take place. To rectify this, the Commissionerate has decided to come up with the night vision cameras.

The idea of night vision cameras came to fore, after the Abhaya gang rape incident in October 2013. Later, the Cyberabad Security Council endorsed the idea arguing that this would help protect women. Currently, the Hyderabad Commissionerate is installing them in 25 spots in the city and would be installing some more in the other locations.

The Commisisonerate will be equipped with 140 night vision cameras, whose tender process is believed to have been completed. The estimated range for recording the objects is 3 km for these new cameras. Apart from 49 km of optic fibre work in the IT corridor, the officials have decided to extend further 11 km for installing modern security equipment. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has allotted Rs 5 crore after Abhaya incident, which is being availed now.
