ASI delaying funds for renovation:FPDMTS, The work which was expected to be completed in 15 months of pulling down the structure in 2005 for renovation by ASI, was not completed even after 10 years.

Warangal: The Forum for Protection and Development of Monuments in Telangana State (FPDMTS) alleged here on Sunday that the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), Hyderabad circle, was delaying release of funds for the Thousand Pillar Temple Kalayana Mandapam renovation works.

Superintending Archeologist R Krishnaiah of the ASI was intentionally causing the delay, alleged forum convener RN Suri and the temple chief priest G Upendra Sharma. They told the media that the Centre had granted funds for renovation of Kalyana Mandapam yet the official was not releasing them.As a result, work was getting delayed inordinately.

The work which was expected to be completed in 15 months of pulling down the structure in 2005 for renovation by ASI, was not completed even after 10 years.

Sharma said because of the slow pace of work the schedule of the Kakatiya Festival was upset.

The MPs should take up the issue with ASI in Delhi and ensure release of funds. Government Advisor B V Papa Rao has estimated to complete the work by March, as only 30 per cent of the work was finished. But it could be dragged on for long, he said.

Forum convener Suri said during the last five months only Rs 5 lakh was released for the Mandapam work, a major ASI project, while Rs 50 lakh was released for minor projects, like Gandikota and others, in Kadapa district.

“The work would be completed only if the ASI releases Rs 10 lakh a month,” he said. Soon a forum delegation would meet ASI Director-General Rakesh Tewari and Union Minister Mahesh Sharma to apprise them of the issue.

They would be asked to replace Superintending Archeologist R Krishnaiah, with an efficient officer, for the speedy completion of the project.

“Krishnaiah was misguiding local legislators and officials by providing false information on the work,” he alleged. At the current rate of allocation, it would take another year to finish the work, Suri added.
