Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is focusing on strengthening the party base in the State, is said to have hit upon a new idea to empower Dalit entrepreneurs in the State. He is likely to come up with an announcement in that direction at the industrial expo to be held in February by Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce of Industry (DICCI).

According to insiders, KCR got the idea after going through a book ‘Defying the Odds’ written by Devesh Kapur, D Shaym Babu and Chandra Bhan Prasad which he has been reading for the last few days. The book is all about the new Dalit identity and it profiles the phenomenal rise of 21 Dalit entrepreneurs, who through a combination of grit, ambition and drive and some luck, managed to break through social, economic and practical barriers.

The stories capture both the difficulty of their circumstances as well as their strong commitment while bringing to light possibilities of entrepreneurship as a tool of social empowerment. “This important and insightful book should be read by all thinking Indians,” this is the reading of noted historian and writer Ramachandra Guha. The book was presented to him by DICCI delegation when they met Chief Minister recently.

Narra Ravi Kumar, the south-India president of the association and recipient of Padma Shri award, stated that they gave the book to Rao in appreciation of his decisions for the development of the community. While previous governments only thought about welfare of Dalits, this CM has vowed for all-round development of these neglected communities, he added.
