Hyderabad: The ‘mishandling’ in controlling the spread of swine flu in Telangana State led to the axing of the Director of Health Services Sambasiva Rao. The State government has issued orders relieving him of his responsibilities as Director of Health Services and directed Commissioner of Family Welfare, Jyothi Buddha Prakash, to take additional charge as Director of Health Services.

It might be mentioned here that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was caught on the wrong foot over the alarming situation about the increasing number of cases of swine flu in the State, especially in Hyderabad. Taken aback by the seriousness of the situation and also shocked over the apathy of the medical authorities, KCR held an emergency meeting with the concerned authorities to take stock of the situation and then sent an SOS to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Central assistance to handle the situation.

As the swine flu fear grips the city, two youngsters were seen wearing masks to  protect themselves from the spread of the disease in Hyderabad on Thursday

The PM responded positively and immediately rushed a three-member medical team which arrived here this morning. The Chief Minister was also stated to have expressed his unhappiness over the style of functioning of the Deputy Chief Minister T Rajaiah who is holding the medical and health portfolio.
