The people of 46 villages in the district have no other option than to choose to travel in private vehicles like sharing autos, which were termed unsafe even by the RTC, as they had no RTC bus facility.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is avoiding running “Palle Velugu” buses to these villages on the pretext of “no-motorable villages” and “depopulated villages”.
Out of 1,179 Gram Panchayats in the district, 46 villages were not covered as per the official records of RTC forcing the villagers to travel in sharing autos and private vehicles. Among these 46 uncovered villages, the TSRTC has decided against plying buses to 28 villages describing them as no-motorable villages. According to RTC, 18 villages do not even have single line road facility.
Under the limits of Miryalaguda RTC Depot, 16 villages, including Chinthapally, Narayanapur, Kummarikuntla, Kusaspalli, Thimmapur, Perooru, Chillapuram, Bejjikal, Thimmareddygudem, Janaldinna,Yellaram, Bankapooru, Venigandla and Villabapoor, have never seen Red Buses. Under Nalgonda Depot limits, eight villages Adavaibollaram, Kumandaniguda, Boyanapalli, Ponugode, Bommepalli, Mailapuram, Narsimhapuram and Manganpalli were also not having bus facility.
The villages Yellapur, Nambapoor, Surepalli, Dasarlapalli, Ummapur and Palipahad under the limits of Devarakonda depot have no bus facility and significant numbers of Thandas were also not connected by RTC buses. The people residing in most of the thandas are used to walking 2 to 3 kms to board a bus or sharing autos. Under Suryapet depot limits, the people of eight villages, including Laxmapur, Thallasingaram, Ippalagudem, B Madharam, Keshavapur, Bakthalapur, Rajpet and Singaranenipalli were forced to depend on private vehicles as these villages have no RTC bus facility.
The villages Vangala and Kashammakunta have also no bus facility under Yadagirigutta Bus Depot limits. Speaking to The Hans India, Deputy Chief Traffic Inspector P Anil Kumar claimed that the RTC was not in a position to run the buses to 46 villages in the region due to bad roads and less occupancy rate.
He said that eight RTC depots have been plying 759 buses in the region and recently 46 new buses were hired to replace the old buses, whose condition is unfit. On the other hand, the RTC has also failed to run sufficient number of buses on the routes in the district resulting in the commuters, particularly students, travelling by sitting on the top of the buses.
In the district, 39,763 concession bus passes, including 20,947 free students’ passes, have been issued by the RTC authorities. But the RTC failed to ply the buses in tune with the demand. It has been a common practice for students to travel by sitting on top of the Palle Velugu and ordinary buses, as there is no space for them to get into the buses due to heavy rush.
