Hyderabad: More than 3,000 people participated in the Cancer Awareness Walk, organized by Yashoda Hospitals – Malakpet, held at Saroornagar stadium near LB Nagar on Sunday, coinciding with the World Cancer Day.

Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Md. Mehmood Ali, Nizamabad MP Kavita Kalvakuntla, LB Nagar MLA R Krishnaiah, former MLA Sudheer Reddy, TRS LB Nagar constituency in-charge Rammohan Gowd, Managing Director of Yashoda Group of Hospitals Dr. GS Rao were present as chief guests at a brief ceremony to flag off the Cancer Awareness Walk.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. GS Rao said, cancer has caused more panic than all the diseases that has been tormenting the mankind. India in particular has a high disease burden of cancer. It is estimated that around 5 lakh people are diagnosed with cancer every year and this number could rise significantly if preventive measures are not taken.

The main objective of ‘Yashoda Cancer Awareness Walk’, he said, is to increase understanding, early detection and survival of cancer. ‘We are hosting this awareness walk in the hope to fill the gap between knowledge and discussion surrounding this killer disease”, he added.
