MEDAK INFANT’S DEATH

Sangareddy: The inhuman nature of a contractor, which claimed the life of an infant in Medak district, has reached the Lok Ayukta on Monday. The contractor had prevented a woman from feeding her six-month-old son leading to death of the infant due to starvation. The Lok Ayukta after going through the details directed the Superintendent of Police, Medak district, to probe the incident and submit a report by February 19.

The bizarre incident, which took place on January 7, came to light only on Sunday. The incident happened at Turkala Khanapur village of Hathnoora Mandal. The contractor hired the labourers from Kakarlapadu village of Nawabpet mandal in Mahbubnagar district to work in a chemical factory on the outskirts of the village. Among the labourers was Malleswari, the mother of the six-month-old baby boy.

Malleswari

Malleshwari, who put her son to sleep, asked her daughter to take care of him and went to work. After some time, her daughter came and informed her mother that the baby was crying. Malleswari pleaded with the contractor to give her a 10-minute break so that she could feed the baby and return. It is leant that the contractor refused to give her a break till the work on hand was completed.

Despite repeated requests by Malleswari, the contractor refused to budge, it was learnt. As a result, she could not feed the child till her work was over and by the time she went, the child had died. After all this, the contractor took the child to a local doctor who declared that he was brought dead.

The contractor, sources said, made all-out efforts to hush up the case. He made sure that the news did not spread in the village. He got the baby buried at a burial ground in Narsapur without the knowledge of the mother. When the mother demanded to know where the baby’s body was the contractor is said to have told her that he got it buried, He threatened to kill her if she made the news public.

The contractor sent back some of the co-workers of Malleswari to their home town lest they may spill the beans. Malleswari complained to Nawabpet police on the issue. The police have registered a case and would submit a report to Lokayukta by February 19 after investigation.
