Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) was rippled with protests on Wednesday over the implementation of fellowship hike. Hundreds of research scholars have shut down the research activity as part of the protest called by Research Scholarship India. The students, who sat on the hungry strike at south campus shopping complex in the university, demanded the research institutes and government to implement the fellowship hike at the earliest.

“Now we are receiving Rs 16,000 per month, upon implementation we will get Rs 25,000. The hike should be made from April last year for all scholars with parity from all funding agencies,” said Zuhail, a research scholar. The protesting scholars said that should be a slab implementation for Junior Research Fellowship to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) and SRF to Research Assistant (RA). “The government should hike fellowship for all the scholars including non-National Eligibility Test, non-GATE, RA and all other professional courses,” said Syed Meheboob Elahi, research scholar, Chemistry, UoH.
