Krishnapatnam thermal power got a fresh lease of life over the power sharing row between Telangana and AP after the Central Electricity Authority gave its stamp of approval for the commercial operation of the 800-MW plant. It is learnt that a letter to this effect has reached AP Transco and Telangana government demanding its share of 53.89 per cent of power has started mounting pressure on AP.

Telangana minister for power, Jagadish Reddy said that they have written to the AP government, LMRC Bengaluru, AP Transco and Union power ministry several times for AP to supply us our share. Besides, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, assured that he would do the needful in this regard during his recent tour of Warangal and he must live up to his word.

A senior official of the Energy Department pointed out that theirs is a new state and hence building the state, opening new fronts is in process. Power is needed to attract investors and Krishnapatnam is not part of the older PPAs, therefore has no validity. Now, Telangana has sought the PM’s intervention into the matter.
