Khammam: With rabi harvesting fast approaching, the district administration has made arrangements for procurement of paddy and maize directly from the farmers. As many as 90 centres will be set up across the district for the procurement of paddy at minimum support price and these centres will start functioning from April 1.

Addressing a review meeting here on Wednesday, Joint Collector D Divya said that the authorities are taking all measures to avoid farmers falling prey to middlemen. In this rabi, farmers took up paddy cultivation in 36,481 hectares and maize in 13,563 hectares. According to an estimation, the yield of paddy is expected to be 1,75,501 metric tonnes. Of the total 90 centres, the DRDA and PACS will set up 51 and 39 procurement centres respectively with an aim to procure 30,000 metric tonnes. For paddy, the minimum support price has been fixed as Rs 1,400 per quintal for Grade-1, Rs 1,310 for Grade -2 and Rs 1,180 for Grade-3. DSO Gouri Shankar, Civil Supplies DM Sambasiva Rao, Markfed DM Sunitha, ITDA Project Manager (business) Ranga Rao and DRDA Project Director Muralidhar were present.
