Hyderabad: While liquor brawls are common on the streets, for a change there was a wordy duel between the Minister for Excise, T Padma Rao, and the Government Whip G Sunitha over the issue of action against erring liquor dealers in the lobbies of the Telangana Assembly on Monday.

Sunitha reportedly took a liquor dealer from Aleru in Nalgonda, on whose premises the excise department had conducted a raid, to the Assembly and they met the Minister in the lobbies. They requested him to condone the dealer as he was found having smuggled liquor stocks. The Minister, however, refused to do any favor. He is also said to have pulled up the dealer for visiting him at the Assembly, that too in the lobbies.

The Excise Minister reportedly curtly told them the State Government had taken up development of Yadadri as a prestigious project by allocating Rs 100 crore and there should be no room for such illicit liquor sale in the area or elsewhere. When Sunitha insisted on her demand, Padma Rao refused to budge and asked her to complain to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao if she so wanted. She is learnt to have argued that there are some other shops selling ‘illicit’ liquor. Finally, an annoyed Sunitha reportedly stated that she would take the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister.
