Hyderabad: It appears that new political alignment is taking place in the state and the Congress and left parties are likely to come closer so that they can forge a formidable opposition in the new state of Telangana. This indication was available from the call given by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy for Congress-Left unity. Significantly Uttam made this appeal in the presence of the Chief Minister and leaders of various Left parties, including the state secretaries of the CPI and CPM.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of launching of new Telugu daily ‘Nava Telangana’, the new Congress state president showered full praise on the Communists. Stating that he has personal admiration for the ideals and sacrifices of the Communists, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that India could successfully resist the recent global economic crisis as the Communists performed the role of a watchdog against the economic reforms during the UPA-I regime.

The Congress president’s remarks assume greater political significance at a time when Opposition parties are flexing their muscles against the TRS government in the state. The Congress camp become politically active after Uttam Kumar Reddy assumed charge as the PCC chief.

Similarly, 10 Left parties are unitedly rallying their forces against what they call anti-people policies of KCR government. It may be recalled that recently Left was part of the Sonia Gandhi led opposition march to Rashtrapati Bhavan against the Modi government’s Land Bill. Political observers see in PCC Chief’s remarks a strategic move for a co-ordinated opposition action against the government’s policies.
