Hyderabad: The Majlis Bachau Tahreek (MBT) has demanded a probe by a sitting judge of the High Court into the custodial death of one Sajid, 28, a rickshaw-puller, who allegedly died due to the use of third degree by the Nizamabad police.

In a letter written to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday, MBT leader and ex-Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan said that the victim, Sajid, a resident of Nagaram, Nizamabad, was picked up by the police at about 9 am on March 21 from his residence.

He was taken to Town-I Nizamabad Police Station in connection with some theft case.“Circle Inspector Srinivasulu, head constable Srirama, constable Nagaraju and other staff of the Town-I Police Station subjected him to third degree treatment. Sajid was brutally beaten up and he suffered internal injuries. He was tortured till he fell unconscious.

He was then referred to the local Government Hospital. Since, his condition was extremely critical, the doctors at Government Hospital referred him to Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad. Since, the police officials were trying to hush-up the case, they delayed his shifting and consequently, Sajid died on the way to hospital,” alleged Amjed Ullah Khan.

“All the guilty police officials should be placed under suspension with immediate affect till the completion of the probe and they should be punished for their crime. Sajid's family should also be paid a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and since he was the sole bread earner, one member of his family should be given a government job,” he said.

Amjed Ullah Khan also alleged that the police officials of Nizamabad, in connivance with some leaders of TRS and MIM, have been trying to hush-up the matter by threatening Sajid's family of dire consequences if they reveal the matter to the media and other authorities.
