Khammam: Stating that the amendments to Land Acquisition Act was against the interests of the farmers, CPI-M State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram on Monday called upon people to unite to take the battle to every nook and corner of the country forcing the Narendra Modi-led government to back off from its decision to go through with it. Speaking at a party meeting here on Monday, he said the NDA government was hell-bent on passing the Land Acquisition bill at any cost only for the benefit of industrialists.

“The NDA is trying to roll out a red carpet to corporate houses under the guise of development,” Veerabhadram said and asserted that the opposition parties would not let it happen. He said that the opposition would thwart the unilateral decision of the Modi government by building a people’s movement across the country. Since the BJP-led alliance came to power, the Hindutva forces had reared their ugly heads, threatening communal harmony in the country, he said. He cited the attacks on churches to drive his point home.

Training his guns against Telangana State government, Veerabhadram said though the farmers’ suicides were on the rise, the powers-that-be had no time to turn their attention on the problem. The government had no plans to mitigate the problem of unemployment, he said.

Party district secretary P. Sudarshan Rao, senior leaders Kasani Ailaiah, Nunna Nageswara Rao, Buggaveeti Sarala, Macha Venkateswarlu, Ponnam Venkateswarlu, A J Ramesh, Yerra Srikanth, A kanakaiah, K Venkateswara Rao, Lingala Kamal Raj and B. Lenin were among others present at the meeting.
