Speaking on the occasion, he said the portal would help create awareness about the disease by providing a platform for patients to interact with medical experts. “India needs a healthy population. The Indian pharma industries are heading close to achieving merit in healthcare.

The portal will aim to cater to all the four components of healthcare, i.e. awareness, availability, accessibility and affordability,” Narasimhan said. Speaking about the disease, Dr Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology said Hepatitis C was a matter of grave concern in India with 50 million people suffering from the disease.

He further added that a recent discovery of direct acting anti-viral drug cures Hepatitis C in 98 per cent of the cases, but was not affordable and costs close to one crore rupees. He said an initiative by Indian pharma industries has cut down the cost of medication to Rs 60,000. “The portal launched will help patients to get information on the disease and its treatment,” said the doctor.
