T N PillayHyderabad: One of the longest serving contemporary sports journalists in the country, T N Pillay, who was suffering from multiple health problems for some time, passed away in a private hospital here on Friday. He was 82. The doyen of sports journalism joined Deccan Chronicle as Sports Reporter in 1957. He rose to the level of sports Editor. Paying rich tributes Telangana English Journalists’ Association (TEJA), of which he was a co-founder, recalled that the ever-smiling Pillay was responsible for shaping the careers of hundreds of sports journalists.

TEJA President and Secretary, M P Rabindranath and S Ramamurthy and former SAAP chairman, Konda Lakshma Reddy pointed out that he was instrumental in the formation of AP Women’s Cricket Association. Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed grief over the demise of Pillay, whom he described as an editor who relentlessly promoted the next generation of sports journalists.
