JANAKIPURAM ENCOUNTER

Hyderabad: A massive multi-pronged combing operation has been launched by the Telangana Police to smoke out one more suspected terrorist believed to be holed up in the hillocks of Nalgonda district which witnessed two bloody shooting incidents where two terrorist operatives of SIMI were gunned down and three police personnel lost their lives.

Based on crucial inputs provided by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA), the elite Greyhounds formed teams and is conducting rigorous searches in Nalgonda district and also parts of the neighboring Warangal district to track down one more SIMI operative, believed to be an accomplice of the two terrorists – Mohammed Aijazuddeen and Mohammed Aslam — who were gunned down in an encounter in Arvapally of Nalgonda district.

The two SIMI activists, who were among the six-member gang which had escaped from Khandwa Jail in Madhya Pradesh in 2013, were stated to have been involved in a series of robberies, dacoities, looting of banks, bomb attacks etc in different parts of the country and also in Telangana State. The investigating authorities including the IB and NIA, after interrogating a number of villagers in Suryapet and Arvapally, believe that one more SIMI activist might have joined the two killed in the Arvapally encounter and might be on the run and hiding in Nalgonda district or in the nearby district.

A train ticket found at the scene of encounter in Arvapally seemed to have strengthened the belief that there might have been an accomplice to the two dead terrorists. Tension and fear gripped the people living in Arvapally and surrounding villages with the massive combing operation and the presence of scores of gun-trotting policemen besides speculations about the possibility of some more SIMI activists on the run.

Even as a massive manhunt is on in both the Telugu States, a revolver-wielding person robbing some persons in Nandigama of Krishna district created a panic. Soon, speculations began to float that the person with the revolver might be a SIMI activist. The police here received information that a man wielding a revolver waylaid a motor-cyclist at Hanumanthapalem of Nandigama and robbed him of gold ornaments.

He even reportedly threatened the motorist of dire consequences if the matter was informed to the police. The assailant was stated to have earlier asked a lift in a car at Gollapudi and got down at Hanumanthaplaem not before relieving the motorist of his ornaments. Later, he waylaid the motor-cyclist.

On receipt of information about the incident, the Krishna district police have commenced immediate search operations on the Jaggayyapet-Nandigama highway and surrounding areas. The police authorities in the district feel that it might be a case of dacoity. However, they did not want to take chance after the shooting and encounter incidents in Nalgonda district.
