Renovated lakes restore life to villages: Harish Rao
Works relating to the repairs, renovation and digging of lakes, ponds and tanks were inaugurated in Jaithwaram of Kandukuru mandal in the district on Monday by a host of dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that Mission Kakatiya did not mean just digging out mud or soil from the lakes and spreading them over the agricultural fields. Maheshwaram (Rangareddy): Works relating to the repairs, renovation and digging of lakes, ponds and tanks were inaugurated in Jaithwaram of Kandukuru mandal in the district on Monday by a host of dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that Mission Kakatiya did not mean just digging out mud or soil from the lakes and spreading them over the agricultural fields. He said that under the Mission Kakatiya programme, the works related to the desilting of lakes, repairing and renovating the old lakes which were dug up hundreds of years ago to provide water were included.
Harish Rao said that the lakes were being renovated to bring the villages back to life. He said that a lake or pond was like a mother to the villages. He said that lakes are useful for fishermen to catch the fish, washermen to wash their clothes and farmers to cultivate their lands. Transport Minister Mahender Reddy, MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy, Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao and MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy were present on the occasion.
