Hyderabad: Heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm lashed Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts on Tuesday. Heavy showers occurred in several villages of Korutla mandal of Karimnagar district, damaging mango plantations in 1,250 hectares, sesame crop in 200 acres and maize in 50 acres.Tin sheds in Taidimarugu and Swarajpur villages were blown off in the impact of the hailstorm.

In Medipalli mandal, a transformer went crashing down disrupting power supply to several areas. Traffic on the national highway was affected after several trees fell on the road. The rain damaged banana plantations and maize crop in Kondapur, Rangapur and Kuthakunta villages of the mandal.In Nizamabad district, rain occurred in Sririkonda, Dichpally and Dharpally mandals damaging several crops. In Sirikonda, paddy crop and mango plantations were damaged in the hailstorm. Power supply was affected with several poles and trees getting uprooted.

On Monday, isolated rainfall occurred in Rayalaseema and Telangana. Ramagiri in Anantapur district and Jangaon (in Warangal) besides Hakimpet in Telangana received one and two cm of rainfall respectively. Rainfall occurred at isolated places in Telangana. A hailstorm was reported from the Moosapet area of Hyderabad between 6 and 10 pm. The Met office on Tuesday forecast isolated rain or thundershowers in north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the next four days.

Jagtial division plunges into darkness

Karimnagar: Unseasonal rainfall hits Jagtial division on Tuesday. As many as 40 villages were plunged into darkness with the disruption of power supply. Strong winds and hailstorm ripped through the division. A large quantity of agriculture produce in various Market Yards was drenched in rain. A report spoke of 2,500 quintal of maize in Korutla was damaged. So was the case with paddy, maize, mango, turmeric and other agriculture produce in Jagtial, Metpally, Raikal mandals. About 5,000 chicks in a poultry farm were killed when a lightening struck at Maithapur village under Raikal mandal. As many as 200 electrical poles and transformers at several places too suffered damage.
