Hyderabad: As part of the high alert across the Telangana region in the wake of encounter of five dreaded terrorists, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in a joint operation with the North Zone police on Wednesday morning conducted an intensive search operation at Secunderabad Railway Station. The railway police took into custody as many as eight suspects and sent them to the nearby police station for enquiry. Later, they were released after verification.
During the operation, which started around 6.30 am, a team headed by SP, GRP (Secunderabad) SJ Janardhan comprising of 200 police personnel participated in the operation at all entry and exit points and took eight suspects into custody for questioning. The SP said strict vigil was being maintained at vulnerable points. “Acting on inputs from our higher-ups, our team was on its toes.
As per the instructions from DG and Additional DG (Railways) and Intelligence Bureau, we conducted the search besides tracking the movements of suspects. At the same time, we tried not to create any inconvenience to the passengers during our search operations” Janardhan added. The teams were deployed at all entry and exit points. Long distance trains especially from Odisha, Maharashtra, and northern parts of India were searched thoroughly and their belongings were scanned for any suspicious packages.
“The operation lasted till 11 am and the staff had recess time. It would again resume around 4 pm when the flow of passengers will be heavy,” the SP said, adding that this would definitely induce secure sense to the passengers. A major concern the SP claimed was roping in police personnel round-the-clock at all platforms and vulnerable spots. “With the available manpower and infrastructure, we are doing our best to provide foolproof security to passengers,” the SP said.
