Social reformer’s 189th birth anniversary celebrated in a big way

Sangareddy (Medak): K Swamy Goud, Chairman of the Legislative Council, garlanded the statue of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and paid rich tributes to him on his 189th birth anniversary at a programme here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Swamy Goud said that honouring Phule meant recognising the efforts of a social activist. He stated that Phule could bring change among those people, who tried to kill him, with his inspiring talk. Goud said the State government had introduced KG to PG free education by taking inspiration from Phule. He stated that Phule made efforts to increase literacy among weaker sections. Zaheerabad MP B B Patil, ZP chief A Rajamani, Collector Rahul Bojja, officials and others were present.

Aruna unveils statue

Gadwal (Mahabubnagar): Congress MLA D K Aruna unveiled the statue of Jyotirao Phule at Krishnaveni Chowk here on Saturday in connection with his birth anniversary. She paid tributes to Phule by garlanding the statue. Celebrations were grandly organised by the leaders of the SC, ST, BC and Minority Ikya Vedika.

Addressing the gathering, Aruna said Phule had strived for the uplift of poor and weaker sections. Former Minister said Phule was one of the tallest leaders of the country. Leaders of various political parties and people’s associations took part.

Rich tributes paid

Nagarkurnool (Mahabubnagar): Leaders of various caste associations garlanded the flexi of Phule here on Saturday and paid tributes to him. They said that Phule was a social activist and strived for the welfare of women, widows and elderly persons.
