Hyderabad: A seven-year-old boy died after he accidentally slipped into an open drain at Arundathi Nagar under Chatrnika police station limits on Tuesday evening. Police said Sanjay, son of Raju, along with his friend, Balaram, 9, both residents of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, were playing near the drain on Tuesday around 4.30 pm when Sanjay accidentally slipped and fell into the open drain which was flowing to the brim after the heavy downpour on Monday night.

The body of the boy which was fished out by the police and fire personnel shifted immediately to Apollo DRDO Hospital in Kanchanbagh where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. “The drain was overflowing following the incessant rains. A slab on the drain was missing which led to the accident,” sub-inspector M Ravinder said. A pall of gloom descended on the family with the news of boy’s death.
